Entry level introduction to practical Mongolian language pronunciation, reading, and listening. The course is broken into thematic areas of greetings, time, food, family, and weather. Students will be introduced to major historical, political, and economic issues of Mongolia. All interactions are online using a variety of communication tools. This course is co-instructed by Narantsetseg Tseveendulam of Foreign Service Institute, Brian White of the American Center for Mongolian Studies and Curt Madison of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Computer with a headset/microphone and an Internet connection.
Beginning Mongolian contains 80 lessons divided into 16 topical categories. It introduces learners to the basics of Modern Mongolian including the alphabet, pronunciation, basic grammar, and common expressions.
Intermediate Mongolian contains 80 lessons divided into 16 topical categories. It introduces learners to natural forms of Modern Mongolian including pronunciation differences between written and spoken expressions, formal and colloquial grammar structures, and broadened vocabulary.
Comprehensive Intermediate Mongolian course includes 8 lessons. Each lesson is designed around individual topics related to different aspects of Mongolia, including history, cultural practices, literature, art, lifestyle and politics. Each lesson is structured to enhance grammar, vocabulary, speaking, reading, translation and independent research skills in Mongolian.
